Justices

The current bench, explained justice by justice.

The justices route is the clearest way into the Court: who serves now, who appointed them, when they took their seats, and which parts of the federal judiciary they cover.

Current bench

Live SCOTUS bench data now has a dedicated route in Gilbert.

The current Court can stream in from the shared Congress.wiki database with portraits, appointment context, service timing, and circuit assignments.

Setup required

Current-bench data is not wired into Gilbert yet.

The SCOTUS route is ready for shared-data reads, but the environment variables, Hasura metadata, or seeded SCOTUS rows still need to be present.

Set NEXT_PUBLIC_HASURA_GRAPHQL_URL and HASURA_GRAPHQL_ADMIN_SECRET to load the current bench from the shared database.

Chief Justice

The Chief Justice leads the Court, presides over oral arguments, and also serves as a circuit justice for assigned regions.

Appointed By

This names the president who nominated the justice. Senate-confirmation context can connect here as the SCOTUS and Congress datasets merge.

Circuit Justice

Each justice handles certain emergency matters from one or more federal circuits before the full Court acts.
